okay, on the surface it’s kinda cheap to give someone a used dvd player as an xmas gift. but i hadn’t accounted for the fact that the ps2 doesn’t play well with widescreen TVs and enhanced/anamorphic discs. so, she got the workhorse from my old setup, which is nothing to sneeze at – oppo’s old crown jewel, it’s region-free and upconverts to 720p or 1080i.
